Eastern Tibet

Of the two highest locations where trees can grow globally, one is in southeast Tibet (the other one in Bolivia). Remarkably, treeline reaches world record elevations in low precipitation regions, enabling pronounced solar warming during the day. While the Abies georgei treeline reaches 4300 m a.s.l., trees are found at even higher elevations where Juniperus does occur. One record habitat reported in the literature has been found at 4900 m a.s.l. The pictures here show the Juniperus tibetica treeline near at 4500 m.
